Challenge

Data centers are increasingly complex facilities to operate, involving the management of hardware, software, services and physical infrastructure. Data centers are complex and dynamic environments that require effective facilities management (FM) to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security. Some of the FM challenges in data centers include:

Managing power and cooling systems to prevent overheating and outages,
Ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations,
Implementing preventive and predictive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and costs,
Integrating new technologies and equipment to meet changing business needs,
Developing contingency plans and disaster recovery strategies to mitigate risks.

Strategy

Our expert undertook a diagnostic assessment of twenty-two data centers worldwide and developed and implemented a Facilities Management strategy to optimize the physical infrastructure, operations, and maintenance of the data centers, including:

Energy efficiency and sustainability: examing how to reduce the energy consumption and environmental impact of the data centers, including using renewable energy sources, cooling systems, and waste management practices,
Reliability and availability: ensuring the data centers can provide uninterrupted service and meet the performance and security requirements of the customers, including implementing backup power sources, redundancy systems, and disaster recovery plans,
Scalability and flexibility: accommodating the changing needs and demands of the customers and the business, such as by modularizing the data center design, upgrading the equipment and software, expanding or consolidating the data center locations, and
Cost-effectiveness and profitability: balancing the capital and operational expenses of the data centers with the revenue and value they generate, such as by optimizing resource utilization, negotiating contracts and partnerships, and leveraging economies of scale.

Transformation

A Facilities Management strategy to optimize the physical infrastructure, operations, and maintenance of the data centers, including managing the Global Data Centres asset life cycle, maximized [up] time and minimizd the [down] time for the critical plant , and developed asset replacement plans with associated sink fund projections focusing on power and cooling resilience.
