Challenge

The Shaanxi Transport and Logistics Port is a major hub for the movement of goods and people in China. It connects the provinces of Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, and Inner Mongolia, and serves as a gateway to the western regions of the country. However, the port has faced several challenges in its operations due to the rapid growth of demand and the limitations of its existing systems. The port relied heavily on manual processes for managing its logistics, such as tracking, scheduling, inventory, and billing. These processes were inefficient, error-prone, and time-consuming, and could not cope with the increasing volume and complexity of the port's activities. As a result, the port experienced frequent delays, congestion, miscommunication, and customer dissatisfaction.

Strategy

We conducted a comprehensive study of the IT transport and logistic challenges that affect the port operations. Our goal was to assess if a new or fully integrated system could enhance the efficiency and reduce the costs of the supply chain processes. Based on our situational and needs analysis, we presented customized solutions for IT system integration of the port activities, along with the cost-benefit analysis of each option. We collaborated with government officials to prepare a series of feasibility reports.
